The 12th HEEN workshop edition centered around decarbonisation strategies and it took place at the International Energy Agency in Paris on the weekend 22-24 November. Friday’s afternoon session offered an introduction into the IEA & OECD institutional setting, insights into the Energy Data Centre as well as a presentation of the agency’s flagship publication, the World Energy Outlook (presenters: Mechthild Wörsdörfer, Fleur Grimaud, Julia Guyon – 朱莉娅, Raphaelle Wauquiez, Sven Reutzel, Andreas Schroeder). Saturday was devoted to topical discussions with diverse speakers from institutions (Yana Popkostova, Sven Rösner, Nicholas Wagner), non-governmental initiatives (Emmeline Stein) and industry (Kora Töpfer, Anna Trendewicz, Elie Bellevrat, Ignacio Paz-Ares, Johannes Trüby). On Sunday, two training session were held. Annkathrin Rabe of innogy taught about power purchase agreements and Andreas Schroeder gave insight into energy system modelling.
Never before has HEEN attracted some many applications and no previous workshop has been as big in participation as this one. It was an intense weekend with motivated and enthousiastic young participants at IEA’s premises in the heart of Paris, just closeby the Eiffel tower.
